Synopsis
In Robert Eggers’ haunting reimagining of the 1922 silent classic, Nosferatu (2024) delves into a tale of obsession, dread, and the supernatural. Set in 1838 Germany, young Ellen Hutter (Lily-Rose Depp) is plagued by visions and a mysterious longing that awakens the ancient vampire Count Orlok (Bill Skarsgård) from his slumber in the Carpathian Mountains. As her husband, Thomas Hutter (Nicholas Hoult), embarks on a journey to finalise a real estate deal with the enigmatic Orlok, he unknowingly invites a malevolent force into their lives.
The film masterfully blends gothic horror with psychological depth, exploring themes of desire, sacrifice, and the thin veil between reality and nightmare. Eggers’ meticulous direction, combined with Robin Carolan’s evocative score and Jarin Blaschke’s atmospheric cinematography, crafts a chilling experience that pays homage to its source material while offering a fresh, modern perspective.
